September 3 - 20, 2009
Opening reception: Thursday, September 3rd - 6 to 9pm
The proceeding works are the product of an ongoing investigation into the translation of absurdity into art and architecture. The purpose of my search is to identify and scrutinize the logic of everyday convention through the act of drawing. As a result, my work retains remnants of reasoning, which act as scaffolding for the drawings they inspire. The series of anomalous constructions presented are reactions to jarring monotony in the built environment. In them, I purposefully pull, tease, and exaggerate rules of architectural conception to create monoliths against regulation. The drawings are presented using standard modes of architectural drawing, such as the axonometric and elevation. However, under closer inspection, the drawings reveal whimsical and nutty subversions of idea, image and event.
