Until the Lake Froze Solid... - Tara Cooper
Opening reception: Thursday September 18, 2008 7 - 9 pm
This September Lennox Contemporary presents Until the lake froze solid… an exhibition by Tara Cooper. Bringing together recent projects created during the completion of her MFA degree (Cornell University, May 2008), the show runs from September 15th-28th.
Ice that reaches a depth of thirteen inches thick can support a ten-ton load. Clear black ice is preferable—its’ transparency indicates that the ice has formed without air bubbles. If the temperature plummets, the lake can freeze in one night. Often using herself as the protagonist, Cooper’s projects navigate between physical and psychological uncertainties—a state where expectations of gender and survival become complicated by sexual desires and a threatening sense of loss. Combining short films, drawing and the confines of small enclosures, her works are intimate and familiar, and yet equally foreign.
Please join us for a reception on Thursday September 18th from 7-9 pm. The gallery is located at 12 Ossington, just north of Queen Street. For more information phone 416-924-7964.
